Just minutes after winning the County Hurdle on Lac Fontana, his first winner of the meeting, Jacob was cantering down to the start on the Paul Nicholls-trained Port Melon before the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle.
Immediately before entering the chute to take the runners down to the start, Port Melon swerved and dumped Jacob over the rail, landing on a Channel 4 camera crew.
He faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken knee, leg and elbow.
His close friend, former jockey Jimmy Derham, tweeted: "Just to let everyone know, Daryl is doing well after his operation, it all seems to have gone well, and he's in very good spirits."
