A review of Monday's meeting at Redcar as Show Palace continued his winning spree for Jennie Candlish.

Show Palace began his season the way he signed off the last campaign by continuing his winning spree at Redcar in the Watch Racing UK In HD Handicap.

A winner of three of his final four outings in 2015 for Jennie Candlish, he showed he had come on again when beating Kiringa by three-quarters of a length.

Sent off the 7-2 favourite in the hands of Graham Lee, the three-year-old made all the running and was a cosy winner.

"He's got a great attitude, all he wants to do is the best he can," said Candlish's assistant Alan O'Keeffe.

"When we gelded him I felt a bit sorry for him, but it hasn't changed him one bit, he's kept his character.

"Today was his first handicap on quicker ground and now that he's won on it, it opens up more options.

"We've only got about eight in for the Flat and it's something we enjoy."

Roger Varian's Owaseyf (4-1) was an impressive debut winner in the first division of the Follow @racing-uk On Twitter Maiden Fillies' Stakes for Jack Mitchell.

Unraced at two, she was a comfortable two-and-a-half-length winner.

There was a surprise in the second division, though, as Tracy Waggott's Connemera Queen ran out a 50-1 winner.

Last of six on her debut at the track last month, she took a huge leap forward and was a convincing one-and-three-quarter-length winner for Robert Winston, who later doubled up on Hughie Morrison's Catalan (3-1) in the Racing UK-sponsored one-mile maiden.

The easiest winner of the day came in the opening Congratulations On Promotion Middlesbrough FC #UTB Novice Median Auction Stakes which saw Mark Johnston's Rusumaat bolt up by seven lengths.

Having shown promise on his first two starts, enough to be sent off the 6-5 favourite, he had not looked capable of putting up such a display but Dane O'Neill made every yard of the running.

Rusty Rocket (12-1) won the racinguk.com/daypass Handicap by the narrowest of margins from Jebediah Shine.

Garry Moss' Planetaria (11-2) owned by Pinnacle Racing, won the Pinnacle Racing Syndicate Shares Now Available Handicap.

Well backed in the morning, he will now be aimed at the final of the series.

Representing the winning owners, Brian Morton told Racing UK: "Gary has worked very hard through the spring getting the horses right and hopefully now we'll see the rewards.

"We thought he'd run well but he's not the type to go and win by five lengths, he'll only do enough."
