    What a week!

As Cheltenham prepares to say goodbye to the thousands of fans who attended - this has been one of the best weeks of racing in recent times.

The story of the day has been Sizing John’s success in the Gold Cup and the first victory by legendary trainer Jessica Harrington.

But few could forget the achievements of jockey Ruby Walsh following his four victories at the Festival.

And what about the trainers - the battle between Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins with Elliott just about coming out on top with six victories.

It has been some week and the countdown now begins for the Grand National at the start of April.

The only way is up for Robbie

He certainly has got the power!

What a way for Gold-Cup winning jockey Robbie Power to finish off the Festival.

Rock the World sealed victory in the final race of a thrilling week at Cheltenham.

Harrington and Power do it again

    You just knew it.

Following their success in the Gold Cup earlier in the day Jessica Harrington and Robbie Power did it again in the final race of the Festival.

Rock the World certainly got Cheltenham rocking following their success in the Grand Annual Handicap Chase.

Final race of the Festival is underway

For the final time at Cheltenham, we are off in the finale (but only at the second attempt after a flag was raised).

In the last race of a memorable week, Le Prezien is the favourite.

But with Gordon Elliott training the Game Changer you wouldn’t bet against him following his superb run at the Festival.

Gordon Elliott - When we get home we will have a staff party!

Gordon Elliott has been looking back at a memorable week at the Cheltenham Festival.

Elliott secured the title of top trainer of the Festival for the first time, ahead of Willie Mullins and, said: “It’s been an amazing week. To beat Willie, with the strength he has - and he’s an amazing trainer - is brilliant.

“It’s a credit to the staff and the owners, I’m part of a team so we’ll enjoy it. Coming over I was hoping for one and we won the first race with Labaik so everything else has been a bonus.

“It’s unbelievable, we had three winners Tuesday and had a bit of a drink, too much so we haven’t touched a drop since. When we get home next week we’ll have a staff party. Apple’s Jade winning was sweet, Cause Of Causes was special but winning the Martin Pipe race is great.”

Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Chase predictions

    1. Theinval
    2. Eastlake
    3. Dandridge

Theinval is taken to cap a good week’s work for Nicky Henderson by winning the Festival finale run in honour of his father.

The seven-year-old, who ran better than his 14th finishing position suggests in last year’s Coral Cup, has embarked on a chasing career this season.

Successful in a four-runner novice chase at Uttoxeter in May, my selection was back in the winner’s enclosure after a two-length call from two rivals in a similar event at Plumpton 13 days before Christmas.

That record might suggest Theinval is better off in small fields, but his third in Market Rasen’s 16-runner Summer Plate in July shows the French-bred is more than capable of coping with the hurly burly of a race like today’s, and he looks well treated off a rating of 141.

In a wide-open getting-out stakes, favourite Dandridge, top weight Eastlake and 2015 Champion Chase winner Dodging Bullets are all worth throwing into the mix.

Elliott wins the Leading Trainer Award

Cheltenham 2017 has been dominated by the battle between trainers Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott.

But Elliott’s success in the Martin Pipe Hurdle has seen him win the Irish Independent Leading Trainer Award.

Mullins does not have a runner in the final race of the Festival.

Michael O'Leary - He's probably the worst horse we own

You would think Champagne Classic owner Michael O’Leary would be a bit happier after seeing his side win the Martin Pipe Hurdle.

But O’Leary has described the horse as one of the worst he owns.

O’Leary said: “I think that was miraculous as he’s probably the worst horse we own, but it will mean more to Gordon as this is a race he’s always wanted to win because he’s very close to Martin.

“When you buy in numbers there some are duds and he’s one of them!”

No Comment and Battleford are among the favourites.

With Willie Mullins training Battleford you wouldn’t bet against him winning another big race.

Paul Nicholls - It has been an amazing week

Pacha du Polder trainer Paul Nicholls says it has been an amazing week at Cheltenham following his success in the Foxhunters Chase.

Nicholls said: “Everyone always expects plenty this week, it’s been an amazing week. Saphir Du Rheu in the Gold Cup (fifth) gave me an amazing buzz and for young Bryony to ride him like that is great.

“She’s Jimmy’s (Frost, Grand National winner) daughter and to give these young girls chances is great.”

    Martin Pipe Hurdle predictions

    1. Battleford
    2. Runfordave
    3. Dadsintrouble

Battleford gets the vote to give his rider Adam Short a red-letter day.

Willie Mullins’ son of Midnight Legend is very close to returning to the Festival as a previous winner – he was edged out by just a nose in the 2016 Champion Bumper, filling the same position behind stablemate Bacardys at Aintree.

Battleford’s career over obstacles hasn’t been without a blip, including when he was beaten at 1-3 at Navan on his hurdles bow in November.

But the six-year-old put matters to rights with a score at Leopardstown over Christmas, before second placings behind The Storyteller (Thurles) and Monalee (Clonmel) on his last two attempts.

The last run came at Grade 3 level, and a handicap mark of 135 could well underestimate Battleford, who should relish underfoot conditions today.

There are dangers at every turn, with Runfordave, Dadsintrouble and Lac Fontana all capable of having a say in proceedings.

Jessica Harrington - This is the jewel in the crown

What more can you say about trainer Jessica Harrington.

The dream has now been completed after seeing her first winner in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

“I can’t believe it, it was amazing how he jumped and travelled.

“Robert said he wasn’t going to go down the inside, but he did. It’s absolutely fantastic, my first runner in a Gold Cup.

“He was running over two miles, but it was Robert who said he would stay and he did.

“Thanks to everyone at home, it’s all down to the team. I can’t believe it, I’ve got to get a Classic now (on the Flat)!

“I’ve never had a runner in the race before so to train the winner - I don’t know when I’ll come down to earth.

“You can tell Robert did showjumping in his youth because I don’t think he missed a beat the whole way.

“I was thinking it was all going a bit too easy. I was glad that on the first circuit he put a few short ones in and he wasn’t winging fences.

“When he pulled him out on the second circuit, he began jumping well. Just at the top of the hill I saw Robert give him a squeeze and he flew.

“This is the jewel in the crown, I’ve been watching and listening for as long as I can remember.

“He’s only seven so I’ve got to keep him right and mind him. I’ve no idea what he’ll do next, all I was thinking about was this race.”

Stewards order the withdrawal of Anseanachai Cliste

    Anseanachai Cliste is a non-runner.

The stewards ordered the withdrawal as they could not be satisfied the horse had been administered only normal feed and water on race day.

On the Fringe remains the favourite

    Foxhunters Chase predictions

    2. Wonderful Charm
    3. On The Fringe

Ask The Weatherman made a taking debut under Rules at Wincanton last month and gets the vote to give jockey Will Biddick a first victory in the amateurs’ Gold Cup.

The eight-year-old has plenty of experience in the point-to-point field, starting off for Paul Barber before joining the champion trainer’s grandson Jack a couple of years ago.

He reeled off seven pointing victories before being sent off at 4-9 for a Wincanton hunter chase - and made no mistake.

After a stumble on landing at the first fence, Ask The Weatherman put in a polished round of jumping en route to a six-length winning margin - and there is plenty more where that came from.

Wonderful Charm, the horse Biddick passed over to partner Ask The Weatherman, and Paul Nicholls-trained stablemate Pacha Du Polder have strong claims, while reigning title-holder On The Fringe won’t surrender his crown without a fight.

Robbie Power - Jessica Harrington is a genius.

Gold Cup winner Robbie Power on an unbelievable achievement of winning the Gold Cup.

Unbelievable, Jessica Harrington is a genius.

I always said when this horse stepped up in trip he’d win.

It’s 10 years ago I won the National, I’m 35 now and appreciate it a bit more.

Everyone has done a top-class job, it means more than any winner I’ve ridden for Jessica.

    Early Tea for Two

It was not all about winners’ at the Gold Cup.

You have to feel for jockey Lizzie Kelly after Tea for Two fell early in the race.

This will be a day she will want to forget.
