Max Ward gained his second victory over fences this season in the Winners Are Welcome At Matchbook Silver Bowl Handicap Chase at Kempton Park.

Although out of luck since making his debut for Tom George a winning one at Huntingdon in November, the eight-year-old appeared to appreciate the step back up to an extended two-and-a-half-mile trip under Adrian Heskin, who was earlier successful on Excellent Result, when crossing the line five lengths clear of fellow 9/2 joint-favourite Sir Note.

George's wife, Sophie, said: "We are delighted with that. It is nice for the owners as they are the same ones of Singlefarmpayment (narrowly beaten at the Cheltenham Festival).

"They've been very patient with this horse. We've waited for the good ground and it has paid off.

"I hope we can run him again this season as long as he is OK. He jumped better today.
