As ever with big field handicaps, the draw will play a pivotal part in shaping the outcome of the race and looking at the last ten renewals of this contest, seven have been won from stall ten or higher.

Market leader Duke Of Firenze is berthed in stall 16 and has obvious claims on the form of his fast finishing third in the Epsom Dash earlier this month and a comfortable victory at York in May.

In addition he was placed in this race last year so the course and distance holds no fears, he looks an each-way bet to nothing at 11/2 but given the size of this field his price is a little on the skinny side.

Richard Fahey has done a phenomenal job re-igniting the career of old-favourite Kimberella and with promising apprentice Connor Murtagh claiming 7lb, should run a nice race at around 10/1 but may be in the handicappers grip after a slightly under-whelming performance last time out.

Also at the top of the market, Orion’s Bow could do no wrong last year, clocking up five victories on the bounce before finishing runner-up in the Stewards’ Cup. He has however found things a bit tougher this season following a switch to the Tim Easterby yard finishing unplaced in his last two outings and so is perhaps one to come back to later in the summer.

Taking the aforementioned draw bias out of the equation, the vast majority of the pace in this year’s race does look to come from the lower end of the draw with speedsters Caspian Prince, Stepper Point and El Astronaute all berthed next to one another. The latter of this trio wouldn’t be without a chance and was well fancied to make his mark in the Epsom Dash that Caspian Prince won a fortnight ago and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Likewise, big things were expected of East Street Revue this season following a promising re-appearance; he should get a good tow into the race from his inside draw and is one for the shortlist at 10/1.

The main dart however is thrown at the Paul Midgley trained Gamesome, whose long losing run doesn’t really do him justice - he’s frequently found trouble in behind and has thrown in some eye-catching performances so far this year suggesting a big-pot victory is just around the corner.

He has a very able pilot on board in Shane Gray and is back to the same mark as when finishing second to an eventual Group performer last season. He represents huge each-way value at 16/1 over a course and distance that he’s already acquitted himself on. Remember that Betfair are offering a free bet to the same stake (up to £25) for every 3/1 winner on ITV races on Saturday.
