Cracksman could make his final appearance of this season in next month's Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.

John Gosden's Frankel colt was beaten a length into third place when favourite for the Investec Derby at Epsom in June and then went down by just a neck to Capri in the Irish Derby a month later.

He is set to have his sights lowered a shade on the Knavesmire on August 23 and Gosden is currently in favour of giving him the rest of the campaign off afterwards.

He told At The Races: "He's in top, top form and wants to run the race (Irish Derby) again, he says! He ran great. He had to come very wide, obviously.

"I think we'll go to the Voltigeur and quite frankly we might just say that's it for the year.

"I feel he's a work in progress, he's still an immature horse, but he could make a stunning four-year-old."
