Haydock doubt over Quiet Reflection

Quiet Reflection appears increasingly unlikely to be fit enough to defend her crown in the 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock in September.

Karl Burke's filly won the Merseyside Group One as well as the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last season, but has endured a torrid time so far this year, with her trainer admitting in the spring his stable star was not sparkling at home.

She finished down the field on her eventual reappearance in Haydock's Temple Stakes at May and connections were hopeful she would raise her game at the Royal meeting, but she was ruled out of the showpiece fixture after suffering a setback and has not yet returned to full work.

Burke said: "Everything is going well, she's in light work and we're hoping to step her up in stronger work from the end of the month and into August.

"She is in the Sprint Cup, but that's on September 9 and things are going to have to go exceptionally well between now and then for her to make it.

"It's not impossible, but I think the more likely scenario is we'll aim for Champions Day (QIPCO British Champions Sprint) in October and give her a prep run somewhere beforehand.

"It's been a frustrating year so far. She's just had a few niggles, but we were happy with her run in the Temple and how she came out of it and unfortunately she then picked up a little problem that meant we had to miss Royal Ascot."

The Leyburn-based trainer revealed Quiet Reflection is likely to be sold once the season comes to an end.

"She has a date in the sales in November and I would think that's where she'll end up," Burke added.
