Zonderland is being readied to make his long-awaited seasonal return in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood next Saturday provided conditions are suitable.

The Clive Cox-trained four-year-old will try to go one better in the Group Two contest after finishing second on his final start of last season.

Soft ground forced connections to shelve plans of a return to action in the Sussex Stakes earlier this month and they are hoping for quicker conditions next week.

Chris Richardson, racing manager to owners Cheveley Park Stud, said: "It has been a long time since he has run, but it can often be frustrating with horses.

"He has taken plenty of time to come to hand, but he was on track to run in the Sussex. Because he likes top of the ground, we pulled him out.

"We have taken a view that we will go back to Goodwood for the Celebration Mile as he ran so well in it last year.
