Runaway Great Voltigeur Stakes winner Cracksman could have an outing in the Prix Niel at Chantilly next month.

Placed in the English and Irish Derby, the John Gosden-trained colt was a dazzling winner at York on Wednesday, after which connections stressed they were in no rush to commit to another run this season.

The Champion Stakes and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe were flagged up as the only possible options, but it now appears the son of Frankel may run in what is the leading trial for the European middle-distance championship on September 10.

Gosden said: "We are pleased with Cracksman and he did his first gentle canter back this morning. I did mention the big races he is, in but he is also in the Prix Niel. If we are happy with the horse and he goes the right way, I will discuss it with Mr (Anthony) Oppenheimer (owner).

"We are just keeping our minds open at the moment. We are just thinking that it is August and it is a long time until he can run again next May if you count the months on your fingers.

"If he is on good order I will discuss it with Mr Oppenheimer and we may well run again."

Gosden also had news of brilliant filly Enable, who took her Group One haul this season to four in the Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday.
