Magical Memory will head for the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan on Saturday week after enjoying a racecourse gallop at Lingfield on Tuesday morning.

The Charlie Hills-trained six-year-old enjoyed another fine campaign in 2017, winning twice as well as finishing second in the Duke of York Stakes and fourth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.

He was last seen placing third behind Blue Point in the Bengough Stakes at Ascot in October and was in line for a potential return in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster on Saturday.

However, a late invite from Dubai prompted a rethink.

Sam Hoskins, racing manager for the owners Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds, said: "We've been toying with the idea of either going to Doncaster this weekend or going to Dubai for the Al Quoz Sprint.

"We hadn't received an invitation for Dubai, but it arrived yesterday and we've accepted, which is why he went to Lingfield for a racecourse gallop instead of running at Doncaster.

"Everything went really well this morning. Everyone is delighted with how he's moving and the feeling is it's the best he's moved in a couple of years.

"He has to finish in the first six in the Al Quoz to pay for the trip, so fingers crossed. For a syndicate to have a horse going out there running for that sort of money is very exciting.

"Frankie Dettori is going to ride him, which is fantastic, and Magical Memory does have a good record fresh."
