It's the biggest race in the British horse racing calendar - the Randox Health Grand National.

And as the horse racing jump season reaches a period of thrilling race meets, the main event of the campaign is upon us.

The handicap steeplechase, complete with over four miles of track and 30 jumps, will take place later today on Merseyside.

With 40 horses set to compete in the iconic race, Aintree will be the focus of the sporting world as all eyes are drawn following a thrilling first two days.

Where is the Grand National held?

The first Grand National was held at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool in 1839, and that's exactly where it takes place today.

You'll find the course on Ormskirk Road, otherwise known as the A59, which is one of the main routes into Liverpool from Lancashire.

There is a small chance it will rain for the big race on Saturday but at the moment the forecast is it to be dry, with a top temperature of 13C.

Every runner down to 10th place will receive a share of the spoils.

One For Arthur, with odds of 14/1, triumphed in the Grand National last year.

Trained by Linda Russell and ridden by Derek Fox, he became the race's second Scottish winner.

The eight-year-old won't be among the runners at this year's race, having been ruled out for the season with a tendon injury.
